Canpotex, which becomes the largest potash marketing group following the demise of its Russian-led counterpart, "will continue to do what it does," Mosaic Chief Financial Officer Larry Stranghoener said yesterday in a telephone interview. "It's an organization of great value to its member organizations and to our customers."
Shares of Potash Corp., Mosaic and Agrium fell for a second day. They plunged as much as 26 percent yesterday after Uralkali said it would exit the export marketing group Belarusian Potash Co. and increase output to full capacity. While Uralkali may grab market share, North American producers will probably maintain Canpotex because it's less expensive for them to handle exports together, said Mark Gulley, a New York-based analyst at BGC Partners LP.
State Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said Tuesday a hospital and a collection agency will each pay the state more than $7,000 as part of an agreement to end unlawful debt collection practices.
Morriseys Consumer Protection Division began investigating Hampshire Memorial Hospital and Mosaic Finance Solutions after learning that the hospital required consumers to sign a consent form subjecting them to certain collection practices if their accounts became delinquent.
According to Morriseys office, Hampshire employed Mosaic, a North Carolina company that was not licensed to collect debt in West Virginia at the time, to pressure consumers with delinquent accounts to sign credit agreements that converted the Hampshire account into a debt that accrued interest at the rate of 7 percent per month.
The money may be used by the attorney general for a variety of consumer protection purposes or be held for appropriation by the Legislature, Morrisey noted. This assurance of discontinuance is a positive step for the state and should serve as a reminder to debt collection agencies that they need to follow the laws if they want to do business in West Virginia, he said.
In an assurance of discontinuance, a business owner assures the state in writing that neither he nor his company will engage in conduct that has been deemed as questionable in the future.Engineering students at a local university campus presented design projects that could theoretically detonate land mines, disable explosives and diagnose the weak signal coming from a navigation system.
On Wednesday afternoon, electrical engineering students at Florida State University Panama City presented their senior design projects to an audience of engineers and students. Each project was based on real-world challenges and was presented with a device each group built.
We have design projects that are industry sponsored, industry mentored, said Geoffrey Brooks, electrical and computer engineering professor. So, these are real-world engineering projects.Ryan Smith stood next to his groups Marx Generator test device. The large cylindrical shaped transparent tube is designed as a testing tool for the actual device which would be mounted on a mine roller which would disable explosives.
The device is building up a charge and then discharging an extremely large high voltage into the ground and then that would hopefully disable the improvised explosive device (IEDs), said Smith, engineering student. Itll create a giant electrical magnetic field that would go into the IEDs and either blow it or short everything out.The students built the tool in order to aid in technology consulting firm Booz Allen Hamiltons investigation of Marx Generator-based counter IED systems, a release stated.
Brooks said for the past two to three years students have been required to do a locally sponsored or mentored senior design project.Gives a basic overview of Stone carving tools and demonstrates their use. And, he said, it allows students to become more acquainted with the local engineering industry often, post graduation, working for a local company. We had several companies spend $10 to $15,000 on these projects because its their project; it was going to be their product in the end. And its well worth the money to them, Brooks added. This is money the university doesnt have to come up with for these projects.
Another group presented a gyroscope-to-navigation diagnostics tool (GNDT) that would help an operator of a vessel determine the validity of a navigation systems reading.Ruth Berrys group, which presented the Mosaic Onboard Signaling Acoustics Intelligent Communication (MOSAIC), was the first of the three groups give presentations. The groups multifaceted display featured a land mine, an acoustic transmitter device, a beacon and a helicopter.
The idea is that we want to remove our operator from the blast radius, Berry said. We found a land mine, but instead of sending him out there to disarm it, were going to remove him from harms way.Berry held up a battery operated helicopter, and pointed to a sound transmitter. You will never need to change the bulbs and your granitetrade will last for years and years. She said the group chose sound over laser in order to ensure the highest amount of discretion.I'm looking at getting the light bar from ford racing and was wondering who sells the Cheap Marble Tiles.
The next step is: he takes a projectile and a launcher at a specific angle that it will go straight up as close to the target as he can get it, Berry explained, the transmitter is sending out a signal as its floating downward from gravity and wind the air hits the fin and steers the nose of this back to the target. Once it hits it, it will detonate the mine.
